CAST (Church and School Together) Ministry
“It takes a village to raise a child.” White Rock Baptist Church demonstrates its membership in the educational village in the Durham Community through its Church and School Together (CAST) Ministry. The goal of CAST is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ by partnering with neighborhood schools in service to local children. CAST is an outreach ministry and umbrella for various programs of this church. Our adopted school is currently W.G. Pearson Elementary, across the street from White Rock.
CAST solicits volunteers from the congregation to serve W.G. Pearson as classroom volunteers, mentors, proctors and hall monitors during the annual end-of-grade testing program, and leaders for recreational activities for students at the school and in the larger school community. Volunteers from this congregation also lead the annual Career Fair at the school by sharing information about their careers, providing an opportunity for students to learn about careers and thus motivate them to aspire to do well in school and to prepare for the world of work.
If you are looking for a place to serve, there are volunteer opportunities at W.G. Pearson, where White Rock members are welcomed. As Christians, we have an obligation to support children and youth as they grow and develop. CAST appreciates the cooperation of the congregation, and asks for your continued participation.
CAST begins its year with a “Back to School Sunday” Worship Service each August. This worship service celebrates the beginning of a new school year; celebrates students, teachers and administrators; and encourages students to excel in their studies. CAST leads the congregation in the collection and provision of school supplies for the teachers and students at W.G. Pearson. Look for an announcement about the start of the drive this year. If you would like to provide specific needed supplies, please consider providing items from the following list during the annual “School Supply Drive” in August.
