Agape Incarceration Ministry
The Agape Incarceration Ministry is a compassionate, Christ-centered outreach serving the young men and women of our community. We connect with detainees and inmates through an online video visitation platform, where we pray with them, read the Bible together, and offer a listening ear. At times, they simply need someone to talk to. We also receive their prayer requests, which we lift up during our Wednesday Evening Prayer Meeting. Our Incarceration Ministry partners with St. Philip’s Episcopal Church to help carry out this important work.
We are currently seeking caring and dedicated volunteers to join our ministry. We are in great need of individuals who can participate in video visits with inmates at times that fit their schedules. Many of you are natural encouragers — your words and prayers can help lift someone who is in a low point in life. Those blessed with strong faith, the gift of service, or seasoned wisdom are especially needed. There are brothers and sisters behind bars who need your hope, guidance, and love.
Our ministry also partners with several organizations that assist youth and those reentering society. If you wish to help, there is a place for you in this ministry. Currently, all visits are conducted by video; however, in-person visits may resume in the future. When that time comes, you will need to download, complete, notarize, and submit an application to the Sheriff’s Office.
To begin the video visitation process:
- Go to the ViaPath Visitor Web 8.0 (GTL system) using the Firefox browser and register.
- Notify us once you have completed the registration so we can schedule a training session and prepare you for video visitation.
For future in-person visits:
- Download, print, and complete the Sheriff’s Department Volunteer Application below.
- Have the form notarized.
- Mail or deliver the form to the listed address, along with a copy of your driver’s license.
If you are ready to join us, please download the application and volunteer instructions below. For additional information, you may email Timothy Coles, AgapeIncarceration Ministry.
We also provide Bibles, greeting cards, and inspirational reading materials to the inmates. Please check your shelves—you may have religious or motivational books you no longer need. We gladly accept paperback materials for distribution to inmates at the Durham County Jail.
Donations may be placed in Tim Coles’ mailbox located in the church library. If your items are too large, please label them with his name and leave them on the table under the window in the library. Your contributions may help lead someone to Christ!
“Whatever you do for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you do for me.” — *Matthew 25:40*
