Child Development Cente: Highlights

“WRCDC set a great foundation for my daughter’s success and the environment was based in love and learning. My daughter is in third grade now and still talks about the teachers/staff and reminisces about the fun she had learning in the classrooms, going on cool trips, different activities/projects, and the connection with new friends that she’s still buddies with. I will highly recommend the WRCDC program, as they are continuously evolving and keeping up with current standards to ensure that all children are kindergarten ready. Thanks again.” Testimonial from parent Taquoia Street

CREATIVE CURRICULUM STATEMENT White Rock Child Development Center (WRCDC) is a place where each child can grow and learn at his or her own pace while enjoying the challenges, responsibilities and academic achievements that come with learning. The Creative Curriculum for Preschool is used to enhance the overall learning experience for the children. The CDC environment provides children with various interest areas in which he/she can explore and learn various concepts and skills.

Teachers develop and implement developmentally appropriate activities that encompass literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. We partner with families, establish positive teacher-child interactions and relationships, promote social-emotional competence, and provide children with the atmosphere and resources for constructive, purposeful play.

The center staff specializes in individualized attention, one-on-one intervention, compassion, and human dignity. The CDC has an environment rich in love and care which helps children soar in positive self-esteem and confidence. We believe that if a child experiences the best there is to offer every day, he/she will be more than ready to meet the challenges that lie ahead.

MONITORING SYSTEM – CDC has a closed circuit monitoring system with three cameras in each classroom, two cameras in the outdoor classroom, and a viewing area for parents to observe children from a monitor in the CDC office.

FIELD TRIPS – Children and families participate in theme related field trips throughout the year. Previous trips include the local library, Pullen Park, NC Museum of Life and Science, Hill Ridge Farms (Pumpkin Patch), RDU Airport Observatory, Scrap Exchange, Farmers Market, NC Museum of Natural Science, Marbles Kids Museum, NC Zoo, and the list goes on!  Taking children out into the community and exposing them to a number of special places and experiences is a key element in providing them with a unique early childhood.

STAFF TRAINING – All CDC staff have various backgrounds in Early Childhood Education and/or Child Development including degrees, workshops, continuing education courses and at least a minimum of two years experience. CDC staff participate in workshops, training, and continuing education courses throughout the year based on the professional development requirements for CDC staff.

VOLUNTEERS – CDC has several volunteers who help in every aspect of the program. The interaction between children and volunteers is key to providing quality in the program.  Currently, volunteers are instrumental in helping us to provide healthy and nutritious meals for the children as well as reading books to individual children or in groups from the library of over 1,000 good children’s books.  Volunteers do not work alone with the children and are supervised by White Rock CDC staff.  If you’re interested in volunteering your time or resources please contact the director at the CDC office or click here to send an email.
